It is suppose to keep weather out but there roofs were classed as decorations and do not keep weather out, for now you can add that tie roof or something to keep the weather out. They are fixing it.

The way I'm dealing with it right now is to build my own psuedo-greenhouse. It's a two-storey building with no floors, a regular roof, and windows and glass doors everywhere. I've also put a simple fireplace in each corner, and auto-watering sprinklers.
When planting needs to be done, I go into build mode, knock out one wall to make the interior 'outside'. After my gardener has done the planting, I rebuild the wall to make the interior 'inside'. All the other gardening interactions can then proceed normally. The only drawback is that Sims get the 'unfinished room' moodlet when inside the greenhouse.
The other caveat is that when planting in cold weather, the new plants will initially be dormant, but they'll become active again in about one sim-day, at least if the fireplaces are lit. (I'm not sure the fireplaces really necessary, though; haven't tested it. They give a nice, warm glow through the frosted windows at night, and are worth it just for aesthetics.) It's best to do all the planting in warm-ish weather, just as IRL, but that requires scheduling your planting around the seasons, and therefore more planning than you probably want to do.
Note that the sprinklers will put out the fires in the fireplaces, so they will need to be re-lit if needed. But in really cold weather, the sprinklers don't work anyway, so my gardening Sim needs to water the plants manually. (I just use the 'Tend Garden' interaction, and watering happens as part of that.) Also, in cold weather, some of the plants, particularly the trees, will look 'frosted', but they'll still act as normal, active plants.

Thank you both so much for your replies and the link! I now have a headache after reading a good part of the 49pages but at least I know that I didn't do anything wrong.
So, what it boils down to is that I now have new decorative items which I can use in 'greenhouses' like the ones I've built before (cheating and finangling and lots of Moo). I was getting all excited about finally using, even if I had to pay for it, a REAL greenhouse that functions like a greenhouse should, you know, negating or at least mitigating weather effects.
Busted.
Thank the creative God that there are community members that help out when the professionals tank their stuff.
Any ideas on how to unfreeze trees?
PS.: do you think the fanboys of the community would still excuse non-functionality if EA sold.. hm, over the top example, a swimming pool nobody could swim in but that looks great in your garden?

Well, I think the Stones Throw Greenhouse was not created with Seasons in mind. As it is, it should function perfectly if the weather doesn't change. And does look beautiful, very much like Kew Gardens in Greater London. But it was released around the same time as Seasons, so naturally we expected it to provide plants shelter from the elements. I think it's to EA's credit that they're updating it to provide that functionality.
As far as I can tell, so long as you keep trees 'inside', especially if you use fireplaces, they will only look frosted, but they will still function as active plants. I can still harvest my money trees in that condition, for example.

Very nice pics, thank you! I had a similar one with different sections for wine, fruit, herbs, a work station.. I take my gardening serious ^^
I'll work with flat roof in a neutral color and place the fake roof on them. I never figured out how to download 3rd party content and I don't really want to so invisible tiles are a no go.
Not ideal but.. I hope they'll fix it soon but I wont hold my breath.

Just a note, if you don't want to go into build mode and knock down a wall every time you want to plant, you can also use the 'Move Objects' cheat. Just open your cheat panel (CNTRL+Shift+C) and type in:
moveobjects on
This will allow you to plant inside the greenhouse. After you are done, just repeat the above instructions only change the 'on' to 'off'.
Also, if you have a large garden and you notice your sim is watering them manually, to save time, just click on the gardening station and select 'Water Plants' and the sprinklers will come on. I don't have fireplaces in my greenhouse (I also have floor tiles under the roof pieces with the invisible rugs to hide them) and my plants don't go dormant in the winter, so if you want, you should be able to take the fireplaces out with no problem.

Hi - I solved the problem by putting ceiling tiles around the outside perimeter of the top of the greenhouse, then placing the greenhouse roofs. No more snow and rain inside. Depending on how large you make the greenhouse, you might also have to place some tiles in the middle.

I don't use 'moveobjects on' because I impose a discipline on myself of trying to stay within the context of the simulation's design, except to correct bugs (e.g., stuck elevators, routing problems, &c.) In fact, a big reason I want to garden in the winter is to keep the 'Ambrosia factory' going, as Ambrosia is the only in-context way I have to keep my Sims from ageing up. It's a nice challenge to get a family to the point where they can make Ambrosia, either through a single individual, or through the cooperation of Fishing, Gardening, and Cooking specialized Sims. (Another complication of this approach is places to find the Death Fish freezing over in winter. I deal with it by using the Omniplant to replicate them - so it gets transmuted from a Fishing problem into a Gardening problem.)
Do you have a way of making the floor look realistic? I assume you can't use a terrain paint on a regular floor, or one covered by an invisible carpet.
Ideally, the whole thing would be solved by modifying the gardening system to allow for indoor gardening, which is something people actually do IRL. (I can't use the planters in Supernatural because I don't have, and don't want, that EP.) But that would require a fair amount of software development, so I won't hold my breath. It would make gardening in Bridgeport highrises a whole lot easier.
And, while I'm dreaming, some means of ice-fishing would also be more realistic.
There's a sense in which The Sims is a daily time-management game: how do I get all the mundane stuff done I need to, in order to find time for more fun and interesting things? If achieving lifetime goals is the long-term time-management aspect of the game, then Seasons, which I really enjoy, adds an intermediate-term planning aspect to all of that.

There are issues with this greenhouse that go beyond Seasons. Plants cannot be planted inside and sims get the unfinished room moodlet. Even if the store only tests with the base game (which is in itself ridiculous) these issues should have been caught. There is no excuse for putting out a broken venue and leaving it up. Sorry if that's harsh, but for $17 it's true.
